Heat pumps for Port St. Lucie’s cooling season
Most houses here heat for a short stretch and cool for the rest of the year. A heat pump is the usual system. The job is moisture removal and runtime, not a furnace.

Cooling is the job
A Florida heat pump earns its keep removing moisture for most of the year. Heating is a short season. We choose equipment for the wet months first.

Aux heat running in mild weather
If the heat strips are on when it’s 60 outside, the heat pump isn’t carrying the load. That’s a call, not a thermostat you keep bumping up.

Repair before a new heat pump
A heat pump that will not cool is an AC repair until the equipment says otherwise. Capacitors, contactors, drains, and storm-stressed electrical parts fail the same way they do on any Florida condenser. We name the fault before we talk about replacement.
Reversing-valve and defrost questions show up on the few cold mornings. They are not the reason a Port St. Lucie house is warm in August.
Installation and replacement
A straight swap of a tired system is a replacement. A new zone for an addition is an installation. Either way, we size from the house: glass, ceiling height, and whether the ducts can move the air.
Near Fort Pierce water, the outdoor coil has to live with salt air. In Tradition, Verano, and much of St. Lucie West, attic heat and duct length matter more.

Do Port St. Lucie homes need a furnace?
No. Heat pumps cover the short heating season. We do not sell northern heating equipment for this coast.
